About the Role

Vets Hired is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Update and revise seismic safety and hazard elements for planning and other departments.
  • Process surface mining permits and reclamation plans, and perform earth resource studies for comprehensive planning.
  • Provide technical direction to planners and others conducting field investigations and review and analysis of seismic and geological hazard reports.
  • Review, evaluate, and field check grading and building plans for proposed developments, and correlate them with geological studies and investigations.
  • Take necessary action to eliminate or minimize the effects of slide, earthquake, and other hazards.
  • Provide legal assistance and serve as a geology consultant to various departments as needed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized college with a Bachelor's degree in geology or engineering geology.
  • Two years of professional engineering geology work experience, including analyzing and making recommendations for geological problems encountered in planning, design, and construction.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a valid license as a Professional Geologist issued by the California State Board for Geologists and Geophysicists.
  • Possession of a valid specialty California certification as a Certified Engineering Geologist (CEG).
Knowledge and Skills
  • Principles and practices of physical and historical geology, engineering geology, and geological formations associated with seismic hazards.
  • Geology as applied to civil engineering, causes and prevention of land slippage and foundation failures, and geological concepts as they pertain to planning and surface mining.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data pertaining to earth resources, and analyze and evaluate local geological conditions in relation to their seismic and environmental impact.
