About the Role

SmithGroup JJR is seeking a highly experienced Power Utility Infrastructure Group Leader to join our team. As a key member of our electrical engineering team, you will be responsible for leading efforts to connect net zero buildings and microgrids to the power grid, ensuring seamless integration while adhering to relevant regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and Nurture Relationships: Foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing with institutional, commercial, and academic stakeholders in the field of sustainable central energy plant integration and design.
  • Design Medium Voltage Power Systems: Develop campus-wide upgrades, building upgrades, and underground distribution systems.
  • Lead Microgrid Integration Efforts: Connect net zero buildings and microgrids to the power grid, ensuring seamless integration while adhering to relevant regulations and standards.
  • Provide Expert Guidance: Offer solutions on power systems and utilities, microgrid design, and grid interconnection to internal teams, clients, and partners.
  • Stay Abreast of Emerging Technologies: Contribute to the development of innovative solutions related to energy integration and industry trends.
  • Manage Projects: Oversee and direct electrical engineering design teams in planning, analysis, and delivery of construction and specification documents.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all projects adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, and collaborate with regulatory bodies as needed.
Requirements
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience in the power utilities sector, with a focus on grid integration and utility connections.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Professional license required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Strong leadership and people skills, as required to build a team and develop cross-discipline/market/region and client relationships.
  • Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Sustainability Knowledge: Familiarity with sustainability practices and net-zero building principles.
