Job Summary

Bowman Consulting Group, Ltd. is seeking a highly skilled Survey Party Chief to join our team in a professional office environment. As a Survey Party Chief, you will be responsible for leading a team of survey field crew members and ensuring the successful completion of land surveying projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction
    • Supervise and direct a team of survey field crew members, providing guidance and training as needed.
    • Review and ensure the quality of work produced by junior staff members.
  • Operational and Company Level
    • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, promoting the firm's capabilities and services.
  • Do the Work
    • Provide day-to-day supervision of assigned survey field crew members, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to complete tasks efficiently.
    • Coordinate with contractors to provide survey services, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
    • Identify and implement controls for property lines, making informed decisions regarding survey methodology.
    • Gather and analyze data, assigning tasks to crew members to ensure efficient completion of surveys.
    • Communicate with clients, providing updates and ensuring their needs are met.
    • Perform calculations and maintain records essential to surveying, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Ensure the assigned survey truck is properly maintained, and all equipment is in good working order.
    • Maintain and inventory all assigned equipment, ensuring it is up-to-date and functional.
    • Communicate with management to optimize efforts and maximize man-hours.
    Requirements
    • Education and Experience
      • High school diploma or GED required, associate's degree or bachelor's degree preferred.
      • Three or more years of experience working on a land surveying party, with prior Party Chief experience a plus.
    • Skills and Qualifications
      • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies.
      • Thorough knowledge of construction stakeout procedures and practices.
      • Familiarity with field procedures for performing boundary and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys.
      • Ability to perform all aspects of data collection, including topographic surveys, road frontage cross-section surveys, and as-built surveys.
      Working Environment

The Survey Party Chief will work in a partly indoor professional office environment, with occasional partly outdoor work environment. The role requires frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment, as well as data collection equipment and drones. The Survey Party Chief will be required to travel locally during the business day, with occasional out-of-the-area and overnight travel as needed.
