Position Title: Assistant Attorney General

Position Overview

The role of attorneys within this division encompasses a variety of responsibilities, primarily focusing on representing state officials and employees facing litigation for alleged infringements of the U.S. Constitution or federal laws. This position necessitates travel.

Key Responsibilities

Engages in legal proceedings:

  • Represents the state in both state and federal courts, conducting trials and arguing motions and appeals;
  • Conducts legal research and drafts pleadings, motions, and briefs;
  • Collaborates with expert witnesses;
  • Engages in negotiations for settlements;
  • Prepares and responds to discovery requests;
  • Conducts and defends depositions of both fact and expert witnesses;
  • Researches relevant legal issues and stays updated on recent legal changes;
  • Participates in mandatory continuing legal education seminars and may present at these events;
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

The above responsibilities are intended to outline the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this position. Not all duties are necessarily required for every position.

Required Qualifications

Must have graduated from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the Georgia Bar.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:

1 to 3 years of experience in litigation.
