Job Summary

This is a unique education stipend opportunity for students at Heartland Community College. Upon completion of the CNA program, recipients will enter as Patient Care Technicians or other roles requiring a CNA certification at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities

As a Patient Care Technician, you will function as a member of the Patient Care Team and provide safe basic care to patients. This includes taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, and observation of patients for physical/emotional changes. You will also record pertinent information in patient charts, communicate with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care, and function as a Behavioral Health Monitor. Behavioral Health Monitors are responsible for providing safe, appropriate, and timely monitoring of medical patients. Duties may vary according to department expectations and needs.

Qualifications

To qualify for this education stipend, recipients must enroll in the Heartland Community College CNA Program. Recipients will have a 2-year work commitment to OSF St. Joseph Medical Center working as a Patient Care Technician. The required qualifications for our Patient Care Technicians are as follows:

  • CNA-Certified Nurses Assistant
  • CPR American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS

Preferred Qualifications

We also prefer candidates with a High School Diploma or GED, six months of experience in a clinical healthcare environment, and six months of experience in supporting physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of patients.
