Senior Software Engineer for Complex Systems

Blackstone Talent Group is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and test complex software products and significant enhancements to existing systems.

This role is ideal for a hands-on platform builder with experience in developing scalable data platforms, business intelligence, analytics, data science, and data products. The ideal candidate will have a strong, firsthand technical expertise in configuration management and big data technologies, with the ability to fashion robust, scalable solutions that can manage large data sets.

The successful candidate will possess a proven ability to work in an agile environment with little supervision, and will be able to foster their passion for continuous improvement and innovation in this great opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop enterprise-wide systems and/or application software
  • Develop complex data flows or make significant enhancements to existing pipelines
  • Research emerging technologies to determine impact on application execution
  • Test software development methodology in an agile environment
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing systems and platforms
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, analysts, project managers, and other engineers

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Minimum of six years' experience in software engineering
  • Experience with programming languages C++/Rust (learning Rust will be required if you do not have prior experience)
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
  • Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Hands-on experience and familiar with one or more of the following software/tools:
  • Building automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins, etc.
  • Constructing APIs and services using REST, SOAP, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with Elastic Search and relational databases

Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with distributed computing systems: Hadoop, Elastic, Spark, EMR, Databricks, or other
  • Knowledge of AWS Cloud technologies: EC2, S3, SQS, SNS, VPC, ELB
  • Understanding of servers operating systems: Linux, Windows
  • Ability to grasp database methodologies
  • Aptitude to focus on continual process improvement with a proactive approach to problem solving
