Position Summary

Become a vital part of our culinary team as the Barbecue Station Chef, where you will oversee our vibrant food truck and grilling operations while fostering the skills of aspiring culinary professionals. This position transcends mere cooking; it is about motivating and guiding our culinary arts students in honing their culinary skills under the mentorship of seasoned instructors. You will also assist with cashier responsibilities as necessary, ensuring an exceptional dining experience for our customers. Key Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrate outstanding customer service and professional culinary expertise.
  2. Maintain organization, sanitation, and cleanliness at all times.
  3. Guide and train culinary arts students, offering insights on grilling techniques, kitchen safety, and culinary best practices.
  4. Process customer orders and utilize a griddle, grill, and deep fryer to prepare, cook, plate, and garnish a variety of meals.
  5. Create a supportive learning atmosphere where students can enhance their skills and evolve as culinary professionals.
  6. Provide assistance and support to students in the grill area, addressing inquiries and offering help as required.
  7. Encourage a collaborative and positive work environment in the grill station and food truck, promoting teamwork and professionalism among students and staff.
  8. Coordinate work on orders to ensure that items are served simultaneously. Monitor and implement portion control.
  9. Assist the Cashier in setting up the salad bar, grill case, and hot food line. Ensure the grill area is well-stocked with food products, paper goods, and utensils, replenishing items as necessary.
  10. Clean and maintain food preparation equipment, workspaces, and surfaces, including changing oil in the deep fryer and cleaning the griddle, grill, refrigeration unit, and all cabinets and counters used during food preparation.
  11. Manage supply inventory by properly stocking the grill area, notifying instructors when supplies are low, utilizing the FIFO system for material flow, and adhering to health and sanitation guidelines for food handling and storage.
  12. Serve as a backup cashier when required.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  1. Current food handler's permit required.
  2. Two (2) years of experience as a grill cook or chef in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  3. One (1) year of supervisory or team lead experience.
  4. Valid Utah driver's license is required.
  5. Exemplary customer service skills are essential.
  6. Strong leadership and communication abilities, with a talent for mentoring and motivating students.
  7. Familiarity with griddle, grill, deep fryer, and other kitchen equipment.
  8. Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Education and Experience Preferences:
  1. Preference will be given to candidates with a certificate or degree in Culinary Arts.
  2. ServSafe certification is preferred.
  3. Proficiency in Spanish is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
  1. This role requires physical exertion, including the ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) repeatedly and/or for extended periods.
  2. Risks associated with a typical kitchen environment, which is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated, including safe use of kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals, avoiding trips and falls, and observing fire regulations.
  3. Ability to drive the food truck to off-site events, which may require sitting for extended periods and safely maneuvering the vehicle.
Additional Information

Working Hours: Monday - Thursday 8:00am to 2:00pm. Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm
