Position Overview
The CT Technologist, under the supervision of the department manager and lead technologist, is responsible for executing a range of procedures utilizing ionizing radiation. The specific duties are outlined below in accordance with departmental protocols. The technologist performs CT imaging as instructed by the Manager and maintains effective communication with physicians and other relevant personnel. Key Responsibilities
  • Identifies patients and procedures. Communicates with nursing staff or physicians regarding patient needs. Notifies nursing of patients requiring IV sedation or biopsies. Completes CT and female questionnaires for all patients aged 12-55. Accurately positions patients for all CT procedures to ensure optimal visibility of anatomy. Familiarity with scanning protocols is essential. Must execute procedures accurately using the protocol manual as a reference. Timely completion of studies is required, with prompt delivery to the radiologist for interpretation. Document the completion time on the patient board. Ensure films are archived and sent to the radiologist for review. Prepare the examination room with necessary supplies and maintain cleanliness and organization. Ensure adequate supplies and linens are always available. Clean tables and trays after each patient. Utilize proper techniques for IV contrast injections, ensuring IV functionality with saline checks. Select the appropriate injection method (manual or injector). Proficient in capturing images from the imaging workstation, including 3D imaging and multiplanar reconstruction. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. - 50%
  • Explains the CT procedure to patients and/or their family members. Gathers completed questionnaires and relevant clinical history from patients, nursing staff, or physician offices. Keeps patients and families informed of any delays. Trains co-workers and students, and assists other technologists when not engaged in assigned CT duties. - 20%
  • Acquires requisitions and verifies clinical appropriateness. Charges for procedures, supplies, and surgical codes upon exam completion. Records no-film badge usage and fluoroscopy time. Adds surgical charges as necessary. Operates the PACS system effectively and verifies studies before archiving. Reports equipment issues to the supervisor and documents confirmation numbers. Completes necessary forms for all procedures. Fills out contrast sheets for all patients receiving IV and rectal contrast. Ensures CT forms are completed for all patients. Communicates with radiologists to determine appropriate protocols for each exam. Adheres to prescribed protocols as directed by the radiologist. Demonstrates understanding of anatomy and pathology relevant to the scans being processed. Performs warm-up calibrations as required. - 20%
  • Ensures adherence to correct protocols as directed by the radiologist. Executes procedures as specified. Demonstrates recognition of anatomy and pathology related to the scans being processed. Maintains competency required for the CT department. Conducts point-of-care testing. - 10%

Minimum Qualifications

Certification Program - Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program with ARRT certification in CT.
