Position Overview
The Prisma Health Physician plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality medical care to patients within the Prisma Health-University Medical Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts surgical and/or non-surgical evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments tailored to patient needs.
- Educates patients on health maintenance, preventive measures, and early detection, providing valuable resources to patients and their families.
- Facilitates appropriate consultations, referrals, and follow-up care based on individual patient requirements.
- Applies sound medical judgment in all aspects of healthcare delivery.
- Orders necessary tests, studies, and ancillary services as required.
- Utilizes electronic medical records, including computerized physician order entry (CPOE).
- Collaborates with the Medical Director and other healthcare professionals regarding patient care and educational matters.
- Engages in quality improvement initiatives, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs as mandated by clinical standards.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information in accordance with federal regulations.
- Upholds professionalism and is committed to clinical excellence, respecting diversity and embodying the core values of Prisma Health.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position includes direct and/or indirect supervision of team members, which may encompass budget authority, hiring and termination responsibilities, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. The role is part of the management staff at Prisma Health.
Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited institution is required. Relevant work experience cannot substitute for the educational requirement.
Completion of a residency program is mandatory. Depending on the specific site or specialty, relevant experience may be necessary.
Certifications and Licenses
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in the relevant specialty and possess a valid medical license to practice in South Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Essential Skills and Experience
Demonstrated knowledge of professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques. Comprehensive understanding of pharmacological agents utilized in patient treatment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with appropriate telephone etiquette, are essential.
