Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wireless Systems Design Engineer to join our team at Apple. As a member of our Wireless Silicon Design group, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative wireless communication systems for our cutting-edge products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate wireless communication systems for high-data-rate applications, focusing on MAC layer system design and optimizations.
  • Analyze and improve the efficiency of wireless MAC layer protocols, focusing on throughput, latency, and overall network performance.
  • Implement MAC system models and investigate algorithms for performance enhancements, design, and validate them to allow performance sign-off and enable system developments.
  • Collaborate with PHY system teams and cross-functional teams to integrate MAC layer algorithms into system architecture.
  • Collaborate with firmware designers to realize these methods with high-efficiency software implementation and possibly using hardware acceleration.
  • Bring up, test, characterize, and optimize real silicon in the lab.
  • Document design processes and performance outcomes, providing detailed reports and insights for continuous improvements.

Requirements

  • BS and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in crafting signal processing and wireless communications systems.
  • Strong understanding of WiFi MAC layer protocol and algorithm design (such as EDCA mechanism, OFDMA, and MU MIMO MAC layer protocol, multi-user scheduling algorithm, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in modem architecture, microprocessor architecture, hardware, and software control.
  • Experience of SoC design and validation to support wireless communication systems.
  • Working knowledge of WiFi systems and hands-on experience with lab testing and characterization.
  • Knowledge in existing wireless communication protocols, such as 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 802.11ad/ay, or Bluetooth/BLE.
  • Experience on low-power algorithm design for power-critical applications.
  • Experience with multi-radio coexistence management.
  • Experience with Python and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
  • Experience with network simulator such as OPNET, NS2, or NS3 is a plus.
  • Experience on bring up of real silicon in lab and being able to efficiently use lab equipment (such as spectrum analyzer, signal generator, power meter, etc.).

Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree in EE or Computer Engineering; MS or Ph.D. preferred.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
