Job Title: Statistical Assistant

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Statistical Assistant to join our team at Health Advocates Network, Inc. in Albany, New York. As a Statistical Assistant, you will assist in constructing actuarial tables by analyzing and presenting data, reviewing the actuarial basis of plans and calculating premiums, and evaluating premium rates, reserves, and liabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in constructing actuarial tables by analyzing and presenting data
• Review the actuarial basis of plans and calculate premiums
• Evaluate premium rates, reserves, and liabilities
• Participate in field examinations of life insurance companies, fraternal benefit societies, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), commercial carriers, non-profits, and retirement systems
• Prepare valuation memoranda
• Review health insurer rate submissions and statistical compilations
• Review insurance company rate filings and reserve analysis for compliance with standards
• Maintain in-house databases
• Review claims records and death and disability cases to establish proper estimates of eventual incurred losses
• Compute loss reserves for death and disability cases
• Calculate the present values of workers' compensation cases and the amount payable to claimants
• Calculate reserves for transfers, disability, and deferred allowances
• Compute cost-of-living factors for supplemental pensions paid to annuitants
• Check computations for valuation and service retirement allowance
• Assist with special projects and research as needed

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree including 24 semester credit hours in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science
• Eligible to work in New York State
• Excellent verbal communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
• Strong project management skills, including experience managing multiple time-sensitive, complex projects simultaneously
• Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including working experience with Excel, WebEx, and Zoom
