Position Overview
The IDA Center for Computing Sciences is a prestigious Federally-Funded Research and Development Center that collaborates with the Department of Defense (DoD) and various federal entities. We are currently seeking a Senior Telecommunications Architect to join our team. This role is responsible for the conception, design, administration, and upkeep of diverse data, voice, and video communication networks, systems, and software. The ideal candidate will leverage advanced expertise to craft solutions addressing a wide array of intricate challenges with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead as the primary project manager and designer for innovative IT technology initiatives. Collaborate with junior team members to ensure effective deployment and transition of operational support.
- Create testing and integration strategies for new systems and software to guarantee compatibility with existing IT infrastructure. Construct new networks according to design specifications.
- Provide ongoing operational support and maintenance to ensure system functionality, availability, security, and performance.
- Ensure all systems comply with business and security standards in alignment with IDA and NSA directives.
- Guide and mentor junior staff, coordinating their work assignments to maintain project timelines.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including standard operating procedures and processes.
- Develop solutions for complex issues requiring innovative thinking. Coordinate resources to resolve problems as needed.
- Administer and maintain both classified and unclassified networks and telecommunication systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Stay updated on emerging IT technologies and industry trends, making recommendations to enhance services and system performance.
- Promptly communicate any network, system, or service disruptions to the appropriate management personnel.
- Address critical support issues that arise outside of regular hours.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of eight years in Information Technology, including at least six years in network administration.
- Possess advanced expertise in IP-based network and telecommunication system design, administration, and support, preferably with Cisco technologies.
- Experience with Cisco Nexus platforms, NX-OS, Cisco VoIP, ASA firewalls, and network hardening is preferred.
- Familiarity with switch image/code updates, configuration backups/restores, VLAN configuration, and troubleshooting Access Control Lists is strongly preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as CCNP and CCNA are advantageous.
- Must demonstrate strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with all levels of personnel; strong interpersonal skills are essential.
- Experience in project management is required.
- Willingness to work outside of standard hours is necessary.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance with lifestyle polygraph is required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain DOD 8570 IAT II certification.
