Job Title: Day Camp Counselor 16+

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Day Camp Counselor 16+ to join our team at the Shorefront YM-YWHA of Brighton-Manhattan Beach, Inc. (SFY). As a Counselor, you will be responsible for leading a group of 10-15 children in a daily basis, ensuring their safety, managing their behavior, and acting as a role model and mentor.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a group of 10-15 children in daily activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Manage children's behavior and act as a role model and mentor.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of recreational activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, and nature programs.
  • Communicate regularly with Head Counselor, Division Leaders, and Camp Directors to ensure the needs and problems of individual campers are addressed.
  • Assume responsibilities for the health and safety of campers, with complete awareness of their whereabouts at all times.
  • Provide support and assistance to campers, while respecting their privacy and sense of self-worth.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 16 years of age (over 18 years old preferred).
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, members, and parents.
  • Lead by example, being a role model for campers and staff.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team.
  • Organized and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic and High Energy.
  • Willing to follow directions and take initiative.
  • Flexible and able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing priorities.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to recognize and respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • The physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related skills.
  • Ability to work both in an outside and inside environment, different temperature extremes.
  • Ability and willingness to get in the swimming pool and Beach to supervise during swimming times.

Salary: Under $25,000
