Job Overview:

The primary responsibility of this role is to operate x-ray machinery to capture standard radiographic images of designated body areas, adhering to physician directives under the guidance of certified technologists. The position also involves utilizing portable equipment in various clinical settings.


Key Responsibilities:

This job description outlines the essential duties regularly assigned. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by leadership as necessary. Leadership reserves the right to modify the duties of the position.

  • Safely transport, lift, and position patients to obtain required imaging in accordance with established protocols.
  • Calculate and select appropriate technical factors to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Choose the correct image size based on the requested radiographic examination.
  • Ensure all images are accurately labeled and documented in the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Review all images with registered technologists performing similar tasks routinely.
  • Maintain knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, including universal precautions and protocols for handling critically ill patients.

Job Requirements:

General Requirements:
  • Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon completion of the Radiography Program.
  • Current CPR certification is mandatory, with a minimum of AHA Heart Saver certification or BLS required.

Work Experience:
  • No prior experience is necessary.

Education:
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology Program and progressing successfully through the curriculum. Upon completion of the program, the student must fulfill the ARRT Board requirements within six months.
  • Successful completion of first-year competencies in the Radiology Program is required.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and multitasking skills.
  • Capability to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in keyboard usage as required for essential job functions.

Note: This position encompasses all student roles and shifts available at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. Shift preferences and availability will be discussed during the interview process.
