We are seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team at the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a critical role in performing complex laboratory diagnostic testing on human specimens to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease in the specialty of cytopathology.
Key Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic work with responsibility for identification, localization, and interpretation of cellular abnormalities.
- Coordinate comprehensive routine and highly specialized cytopathology procedures.
- Makes diagnoses using clinical history provided and/or consult clinician using experience and knowledge.
- Ensure the quality of laboratory services and adequacy of equipment, personnel, and working accommodations.
- Establish and monitor quality control/record keeping systems and measures to assure the accuracy and validity of test results.
- Solve testing problems, develop new solutions to testing problems, and perform newer/more complex tests and examinations.
- Interpret agency policies and directives, prepare guidelines governing laboratory operations, and advise supervisors on the preparation, maintenance, review, and revision of procedure manuals.
- Maintain professional currency in a specialized area of laboratory services by subscribing to professional journals, attending professional seminars, and participating in professional conferences or training that addresses specialization.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- Must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university and successfully completed a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs accredited cytotechnology program.
- Must currently possess the Cytotechnologist (CT) (ASCP) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT) (ASCP) certification given by the ASCP Board of Certification.
- Must have 1 year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09), which is directly related to the position to be filled.
- 1 year in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
The work is primarily sedentary, although there may be some walking or standing, carrying of light items and small instruments per VAMC safety guidelines.
