Work Schedule: 7am - 3pm with on-call days | No supervisory duties | No travel required | Compensation based on experience.

Position Summary:

The Operating Room Technician plays a vital role in assisting the surgeon during surgical and invasive procedures. This position requires both independent functioning and collaborative teamwork within the surgical environment. Responsibilities include ensuring the operating room is adequately prepared, monitoring surgical instrument and supply levels, and participating in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives. The technician is responsible for the cleaning, assembly, maintenance, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment, adhering to established hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program preferred.
  • Current knowledge of aseptic principles and surgical techniques.

Experience: Previous experience in an operating room setting and/or knowledge of sterile techniques preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current NC LPN certification or Certified Operating Room Technician or Paramedic.
  • BLS certification.

Work Hours: Due to the nature of patient care, shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. For on-call duties, a 30-minute response time to the hospital is expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage professionally with patients and their families.
  2. Provide clear explanations and reassurance to patients as needed.
  3. Adapt procedures to accommodate the unique needs of patients across all age groups.
  4. Prepare the surgical room promptly with all necessary instruments and supplies.
  5. Handle specimens with care and accuracy.
  6. Assist in the positioning and preparation of patients for surgical procedures.
  7. Conduct accurate counts of instruments and supplies, reporting any discrepancies immediately.
  8. Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to safety protocols.
  9. Participate in verification processes for procedures and communicate effectively with team members.
  10. Ensure all equipment is functioning properly prior to procedures.
  11. Assist in maintaining an organized and efficient surgical environment.
  12. Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  13. Follow aseptic techniques during all procedures.
  14. Clean and prepare the surgical area between procedures.
  15. Be responsible for the care and processing of surgical instruments.
  16. Collaborate with team members to ensure the availability of necessary supplies.
  17. Make informed decisions within the scope of practice.
  18. Utilize standard precautions to prevent infection.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned.
