Job Responsibilities
The Office of the Inspector General's Criminal Intelligence Team is tasked with analyzing, compiling, reporting, and tracking criminal information.
This unit identifies causes, trends, and common factors associated with criminal incidents, aiming to inform, educate, and prepare investigative personnel and other responders to deter, detect, or otherwise prevent future criminal activities.
This position will extract and analyze data from criminal incident reports, facility reportable incidents, interviews, participation in local law enforcement crime analyst and intelligence meetings, and other sources to identify trends and commonalities related to criminal incidents, producing timely, factual, and accurate reports and bulletins that will aid in crime prevention and reduce victimization within the facilities of the Colorado Department of Corrections.
This role will collaborate closely with the OIG IMPACT Team and other Criminal Investigators to analyze case information, prepare presentations, and compile statistics related to drug offenses impacting the safety of the Colorado Department of Corrections facilities, inmates, and staff.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Analyzing, compiling, reporting, and tracking criminal information.
- Extracting and analyzing data from criminal and facility reports, interviews, and other sources to develop Modus Operandi information, suspect profiles, and anecdotal data related to criminal incidents and intelligence information.
- Examining data for common themes and MOs, creating timely reports and bulletins to disseminate information.- Developing strategies, processes, and providing crime analysis support to the Inspector General and criminal investigators by generating reports that demonstrate link analysis between MO information, suspect profiles, and anecdotal crime data for case analysis and court presentation.
- Reviewing reportable incidents and ensuring accurate reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis.- Reporting on identified trends and developing information that assists internal and external stakeholders in identifying suspects through criminal history, geographic location, gang affiliation, and/or any other information provided by external sources.
- Analyzing criminal intelligence data to identify trends and MOs, creating timely and relevant intelligence bulletins and other products for use by criminal investigators to enhance crime detection and deterrence.
- Establishing working relationships and collaboration, as well as cross-training on analysis and intelligence functions.- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Seven (7) years of professional analyst experience, including:
- One year as an employee of a criminal justice or military agency, analyzing raw, unvetted intelligence data, resulting in the production of refined intelligence products, actionable strategies, or consultation with higher management for informed resource allocation and deployment.
- One year of experience building and/or working with relational databases;- Creating reports, tables, graphs, and charts to identify successes and overcome obstacles to success.
- Developing forms and databases to track work, time spent on work, and resource distribution.

Education and Experience:
A combination of related education (degree fields such as statistics/analytics, criminal justice, etc.) and/or relevant professional experience as defined above equating to seven (7) years.

- Experience analyzing and interpreting state and federal statutes;
- Experience using analytical tools and software;
- Experience searching or working within social media platforms, dark web, and/or conducting financial tracking.
