Job Title: Field Inspector I

SGS is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Field Inspector I to join our team. As a Field Inspector I, you will be responsible for conducting inspections of grain and food oil transport systems, loading/unloading processes, and sampling of grains, food oils, and other commodities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform inspections and sampling of containers, barges, and rail cars at various locations
  • Supervise loading and counting of agricultural products in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
  • Measure, weigh, sample, and take temperatures of various agricultural products in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
  • Calculate transferred quantities and perform full reconciliation of the same
  • Perform initial analysis of different grains and split samples to speed the process for Grain Graders
  • Transport commodity samples from loading terminals to the office and vice versa
  • May perform basic laboratory testing of samples under supervision
  • Take detailed notes and photographs to document the inspection process and report all required field activities as per National/Regional field forms
  • Maintain regular communication with administrative staff regarding job status, progress, and problems
  • Stay informed of and adhere to the latest industry and client procedures
  • Adopt safe behavior by exercising due regard for the health and safety of SGS employees and clients, in line with SGS policies and procedures
  • Comply with the SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma and 0-2 years of previous experience in grain or oil inspection and/or grain grading operation
  • Completion of required training programs (Basic and Level I) to achieve and maintain proficiency at the Field Inspector I level
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Associate degree in an agriculture-related field and 1-2 years of experience in grain or oil inspection and/or grain grading operation (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license for travel to various client sites
  • Must possess/maintain a TWIC card to work on port or eligible to apply for a TWIC Card

  • Mathematical Skills: Intermediate level required
  • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Intermediate level required
