Electrical Technician

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join our team at Macomb County (Michigan). The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment associated with road construction.
Key Responsibilities- Install, service, and maintain traffic signals
- Install, modify, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatuses, and control equipment
- Modify electrical installations to minimize waste of materials and provide access for future maintenance
- Follow diagrams and/or blueprints to ensure concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring
- Make standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment
- Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, pull, and install electrical conduit
- Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
- Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment
- Install control and distribution apparatuses such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels
- Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads
- Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components
- Maintain emergency generators, lift stations, and other electrical equipment and systems
- Perform routine inspections of installed equipment and/or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
- Perform emergency service and preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment and systems
- Operate and drive various truck-mounted aerial lift devices
- Erect scaffolding or set up ladders necessary for performing tasks above ground level
- Operate a snow plow truck with underbody blade, front plow, and salt spreader insert for winter maintenance
- Participate in call rotation as assigned by the Electrical Supervisor
- Participate in random drug and alcohol screens
- Perform related duties as assigned
- Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test (GED)
- A minimum of four (4) years electrical experience
- Possession of a current Michigan Commercial Driver's License and appropriate endorsements (Class A or B with air brake endorsement) within one (1) year of hire date
- Journeyman Electrician License
- 100 Foot Pole Certification
- Knowledge of electrical installations to minimize waste of materials and provide access for future maintenance
- Knowledge of how to follow diagrams and/or blueprints to ensure concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring
- Skill in raising, lowering, or positioning equipment, tools, and materials using hoist, hand line, or block and tackle
- Skill in measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, pulling, and installing electrical conduit
- Skill in maintaining emergency generators, lift stations, and other electrical equipment and systems
- Ability to transport tools, material, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, truck, or heavy motorized truck
- Ability to make standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment
- Ability to effectively speak, write, and understand the English language
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions
- Ability to accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information
- Ability to work in an environment which embraces the county's Dignity Campaign
- Ability to work independently
- Work environment: outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic), construction site
- Exposures: individuals who are hostile or irate, extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
- Balancing on even or uneven surfaces/ground
- Bending (forward or backward bending at the waist)
- Climbing up or down stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and platforms
- Crawling (moving about on hands and knees)

- Driving on sealed and unsealed roads

- Reaching overhead (arms raised above the shoulder) or forward reaching (arms extended)
