Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team in the Emergency Department at Medstar. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care activities, including vital sign measurement, documentation, and specimen collection.
  • Assist nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests, and patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  • Perform specific care activities, such as phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) catheter insertion, and electrocardiography (EKG).
  • Assist with patient transportation, transfers, and discharges.
  • Participate in patient/family teaching and respond to questions from patients, families, and visitors.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of patient rooms/bays/environment.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program required.
  • 1-2 years experience as a certified nursing assistant required.
  • Experience as a care technician, emergency medical technician, or paramedic preferred.
  • General health care experience in an acute care, long-term care, or other settings preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant in Maryland required.
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required.
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
