Job Summary

This role is part of the Plant family, which encompasses positions responsible for overseeing or performing work related to metals processing and distribution within the Reliance family of companies.

The job involves operating specialized equipment and/or supporting functions, requiring a practical understanding of the nature and operations of the materials, facilities, and methods employed by Reliance companies in metals processing and distribution.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform advanced production activities on all saws, including vertical and horizontal saws.
  2. Review blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions, or other written specifications.
  3. Choose the correct material for the job according to the work order.
  4. Position work pieces for processing and may operate a combination of different saws to process.
  5. Determine processing specifications such as materials, location of cuts, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
  6. Measure and examine pieces using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications.
  7. Perform quality control inspections on finished product and for ISO-certified locations, perform In Process Quality Inspections.
  8. Clean equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
  9. Diagnose problems and make necessary adjustments and remove scrap from the machine.
  10. Coordinate and execute material handling.
  11. Complete work order paperwork/documentation.
  12. Restock material.
  13. May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing.
  14. May mark material after processing and store material for additional processing and/or shipping.
  15. Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
Requirements

0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

High School diploma/GED preferred.

Warehousing and material handling experience preferred.

Experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting saws preferred.

Experience on overhead crane operation preferred.

Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination required.

Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations required.

Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly required.

Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.

Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of software applications required.

Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.

Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.

Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and co-workers required.

Work Environment

Warehouse/Field setting; minimal temperature environment.

Travel

Up to 10%.
