Job Summary:
The City of Roanoke is seeking a highly skilled Facilities Foreman to oversee and participate in maintenance and construction activities across various city facilities. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and participate in maintenance and construction activities, ensuring compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and safety procedures.
- Assign and supervise the work of maintenance workers and technicians, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion, maintaining accurate log sheets and checklists.
- Requisition necessary equipment and materials, maintaining time and material records, and preparing simple reports.
- Perform or assist in performing more difficult or skilled tasks, including trades work in multiple areas at a Master level.
- Operate heavy and light equipment during snow removal, special events, and other emergency tasks, including some nights, weekends, and holidays when needed.
- Enforce and review sound safety and housekeeping practices, following established safety rules and procedures.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years of experience and/or training in trades area assigned or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, depending on area of assignment, may require possession of a valid Class A, B or C commercial driver's license.
- Minimum of a Journeyman Plumber Certification, with ample time to obtain a Virginia State Master Plumber Certification; Backflow Certification preferred.
- Minimum of a Journeyman Virginia Electrical Certification, with ample time to obtain a Virginia State Master Electrician Certification.
Working Conditions:
The work environment is dynamic, with regular exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level is usually loud, and some tasks may require wearing respiratory protection.
