Job Title: Transportation Planner III

About the Position:

The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is seeking a highly skilled professional to join its Transportation Planning Team. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in addressing the region's most pressing mobility challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage regional and subregional transportation studies, leading innovative multimodal research and analysis efforts.
  • Communicate complex analysis findings to various audiences, including stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Develop relationships with private and public sector stakeholders to inform the planning process.
  • Analyze diverse data sources and policy documents to prepare reports and support decision-making.
  • Conduct research and analysis independently or as part of a team.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to ongoing planning work.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with member agencies and stakeholders.
  • Support MAG committees and workgroups.
  • Project procurement and contract management, as well as budget administration.
  • Coordinate or collaborate with other MAG internal departments.
  • Serve as a technical liaison to partner agencies' studies.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of multimodal planning experience and knowledge, with specific experience in managing intricate and highly visible projects. They should demonstrate the ability to think critically and analytically, bringing together complex tasks into cohesive deliverables that inform policies and strategies.

The candidate should have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, with experience presenting to and working with various audiences. Productive relationships with member agency representatives, built upon strong customer service skills and responsiveness, are vital to success in this position.

The candidate should be detail-oriented, highly motivated, and demonstrate a strong work ethic, with the ability to work in a dynamic environment, both independently and within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

High proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, is required. Familiarity with geographic information systems (GIS), such as ESRI or QGIS, is preferred. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, TransCAD or equivalent demand modeling software, and analysis of modeling results, is a plus.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field is required, with more than three years of relevant experience in transportation planning or engineering. A Master's degree is preferred.
