Job Overview

This is a part-time position requiring 25 hours of work per week.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: This role is essential for the operation, maintenance, and daily management of the Precision Manufacturing Lab. The individual will perform mechanical and technical tasks related to the setup, disassembly, and upkeep of laboratory equipment utilized in course instruction, while also assisting faculty with both lab and classroom teaching.

KEY DUTIES:

  • Facilitates the training and proficient use of precision manufacturing tools by students and faculty within the lab environment.
  • Assists in transforming existing student projects into competency-based initiatives; evaluates and assesses student work, providing consistent feedback to faculty after competency demonstrations.
  • Collaborates with faculty to enhance student learning and progression through the curriculum; conducts evaluations of student projects with minimal oversight from instructors, delivering regular feedback to faculty.
  • Supports faculty in the integration of online training and simulation tools into the competency-based curriculum.
  • Guides and aids students in practical learning experiences with lab equipment; adjusts training scenarios as necessary to optimize student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Assists instructors in preparing and executing lab activities by organizing available training resources, including programmable simulators and online materials.
  • Conducts testing, cleaning, and routine maintenance of lab equipment, and aids in the setup and breakdown of class demonstrations and training sessions.
  • Provides technical support to students and faculty, overseeing the use of all machining and simulation tools in the lab; troubleshoots technical issues and communicates equipment needs to the Project Coordinator.
  • Educates on and enforces lab safety protocols; ensures a clean and functional facility conducive to an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Assists with software and hardware installations and updates; maintains equipment functionality as directed by manufacturer guidelines and participates in necessary technical training.
  • Adheres to all relevant system, college, state, and federal regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or technical institution in Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, Engineering, Machine Technology, or a related field.

Experience: A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in precision manufacturing operations or a closely related area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree is preferred; additional years of experience in precision manufacturing and/or laboratory operations are advantageous.

Licensure/Certifications: A valid driver's license or reliable transportation for statewide travel.

DESIRED WORK TRAITS: Extensive knowledge of laboratory technology practices in machining and/or manufacturing. Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment, particularly CNC machine tools, and skilled in applying techniques for conducting analyses with complex machining equipment. Ability to adhere to standard laboratory methods and procedures. Capable of following both verbal and written instructions, maintaining precise records of tests conducted, and fostering effective working relationships with colleagues. Must maintain a professional appearance as determined by the agency's standards.
