Developmental Services, Inc. - Columbus is seeking a skilled DSP Art Instructor to join our team.

Job Summary:

The DSP Art Instructor will be responsible for coordinating and developing art instruction and curriculum to ensure a meaningful day for all persons served. This includes implementing instruction and opportunities for learning for adults with disabilities in an integrated classroom setting, facilitating and providing direct care to persons served in reaching their maximum potential, and creating a warm and accepting environment for adults, parents, families, volunteers, community representatives, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Plan and conduct a variety of activities that meet the needs of assigned adults and promote appropriate developmental age progress in language, self-help, fine and gross motor, social/emotional skills, and cognitive skills.
  2. Create and implement art-based activities, lesson plans, and lead art classes.
  3. Demonstrate multiple art techniques, including ceramics, painting, and teach staff and persons served.
  4. Provide direct care support to persons served in a day service setting.
  5. Follow daily routine and schedule while remaining flexible to individual factors that may alter the routine.
  6. Help create a warm and accepting environment for adults, parents, families, volunteers, community representatives, and staff.
  7. Assist and train staff in effective engagement techniques to best meet the needs of all persons served and staff.
  8. Communicate and work with other staff to coordinate program components and goals for each adult.
  9. Coordinate and develop curriculum to ensure a meaningful day for all persons served.
  10. Research and recommend teaching techniques to reach, engage, and support persons served.
  11. Assess the effectiveness of the curriculum and modify it as needed.
  12. Participate in professional organizations to enhance the Curriculum Program.
  13. Maintain program curriculum at accreditation levels and meet standards of the Board of Health, CARF, Medicaid, BDDS, BQIS, etc.
  14. Coordinate, supervise, create, and evaluate instructional activities provided to persons served.
  15. Assist with the development and implementation of short and long-range programming goals, including program evaluation systems.
  16. Maintain the confidentiality of persons served.
  17. Assist with maintaining the kiln.
  18. Assist with all aspects of the gift stores.
  19. Order products for gift stores based on sales schedules.
  20. Oversee all activities for monthly First Friday events.
  21. Work in gift stores as scheduled and maintain availability to assist with special events.
Requirements:
  1. High School diploma or GED preferred.
  2. Previous experience working with clients with intellectual disabilities is preferred.
  3. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining annual certification in CPR, First Aid, CPI, and Med Core A & B.
  4. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
  5. Maintain a valid Indiana driver's license, insurance on personal vehicle (minimum of PLPD with medical liability coverage), and maintain insurability as defined by the agency liability insurance carrier.
