Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist II is a key member of the operating room team, responsible for assisting surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures. This role requires a high level of proficiency and attention to detail, ensuring a safe and efficient operating environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, and surgical procedures

Prepare the operating room for surgery by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment

Obtain special supplies indicated by physician and set up and operate specialized instrumentation, manual and powered equipment

Maintain an organized sterile field and ensure the sterility of the field by taking corrective action as needed

Assist with placement of sterile drapes, provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure, and maintain aseptic technique

Retrieve and collect specimens and label specimens appropriately and correctly

Report any implanted devices, catheters, drains, and packing to circulator

Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification opportunities and adhere to all patient safety care measures

Licensing/Certification:

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification, NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) (required)

Education:

Associates Degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required)

Work Experience:

One year of experience as a Surgical Technologist (required)

Neonates (0-4 weeks)

Pediatrics (1-12 years)

Adolescents (13-19 years)

Adults (20-64 years)

Geriatrics (65 years and older)

Working Conditions:

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur
