Job Title: ESL Instructor - Lawrence Family Development
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced ESL Instructor to join our team at Lawrence Family Development. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English language skills to adult students, with a focus on reading, speaking, and listening.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Teach ESL to up to 25 participants at varying levels, while integrating core skills needed for English language learning.
- Curriculum Development: Develop individual learning plans for each student and monitor student progress by updating plans and course progress regularly.
- Materials and Resources: Use ESL text, teacher-created materials, computer and other media provided by LFD, as well as other appropriate materials, as approved.
- Program Planning: Develop program curriculum and lesson plans for cycles of up to 16 weeks. Assess individual student progress and adapt curriculum and lesson plans to meet individual student learning and testing needs.
- Assessment and Testing: Assess student readiness to take the BEST exam and other English fluency tests, and coordinate with the Manager for Family Center appropriate application and test dates to meet students' needs.
- Record Keeping: Keep student records and data in accordance with funders' requirements, students, and staff needs.
- Recruitment and Intake: Assist with the recruitment and intake assessments of prospective students.
- Data Entry: Enter individual student academic data into internal data management information system for all mandatory reports to local, state and federal affiliates.
- Staff Meetings and Activities: Attend all staff meetings and participate in programmatic activities.
- Attendance and Participation: Maintain a record of class attendance and contract absent students to encourage attendance and participation.
- Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all participants' and students' identity and personal data.
- Business Decorum: Maintain strict business decorum and not discuss Family Center business with students or outside agencies.
Requirements:
- Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree
- Experience: Experience teaching ESL skills to adult students preferred
- Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration with staff, students and others around program issues, and team-teaching. Excellent oral and written communication skills; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Excellent computer skills. Ability to work sensitively and effectively in a multicultural setting.
Conflict of Interest Clause: Instructor will not engage in the recruitment of Family Center students/clients for the purposes of providing services to them for financial or personal gain. Instructors will not engage in the marketing of goods or services to students.
