Job Title: Aluminum Shipfitter

Eastern Shipbuilding Group is seeking a skilled Aluminum Shipfitter to join our team. As a key member of our shipbuilding team, you will be responsible for laying out and fabricating metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames. You will also be responsible for bracing them in position within the hull of ships for riveting or welding.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts according to specifications
  • Brace parts in position within the hull of ships for riveting or welding
  • Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts
  • Install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories and members
  • Tack weld clips and brackets in place prior to permanent welding
  • Accountable for completion of daily work assignments
  • Flag cranes and pull angle iron as required
  • Work with minimal supervision
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three to five years of shipfitting experience desired
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools to construct marine vessels
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools
Physical Demands:

The employee is regularly required to communicate, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards found in a heavy industrial shipyard environment.
