Job Summary:

As a Certified Anesthesia Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in the anesthesia care team, assisting with patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of anesthesia equipment. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist anesthesia providers with patient preparation, electrode placement, and use of ultrasound/nerve stimulator devices
  • Perform mechanical tasks, such as pressing syringe plungers, as directed by the anesthesia provider
  • Prepare and apply patient warming modalities when needed
  • Coordinate patient monitoring equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care units
  • Work with perioperative team to facilitate a prompt room turnover
  • Assemble anesthesia equipment and supplies needed for general/regional/local anesthesia
  • Ensure sterile technique and prepare anesthesia trays and assist with procedures
  • Remove and dispose of supplies and equipment following procedures
  • Operate cell salvaging, intra-aortic balloon pumping, and TEE devices as required
  • Perform cleaning, sterilization, and decontamination of all non-disposable anesthesia-related items
  • Maintain sufficient stock and review supplies and non-scheduled drugs in the anesthesia workroom
  • Notify Pharmacy for out-of-stock drugs
  • Utilize working knowledge and operation of all equipment and monitors
  • Perform routine checkout and upkeep of anesthesia equipment, inspect for damages, and send for repair or troubleshoot as needed
  • Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesia equipment and ensure adequate backup of equipment at all times
  • Participate in relevant local, regional, and national committees
  • Work with approved vendors to maintain inventory of disposable and non-disposable equipment
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an Accredited program in Anesthesia Technology with an AS degree or certified by the American Society of Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) as a Technologist
  • IV Certification or a graduate of an Accredited Anesthesia Technology Program
  • Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications
  • American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians - Technologist certification
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs of equipment from an overhead position on a daily basis
  • Ability to push/pull up to 500 lbs
  • Keyboarding skills and ability to use computer software applications
  • Ability to stand or walk continuously
  • Manual dexterity and mechanical ability
  • Ability to exercise judgment and work efficiently and competently with minimal supervision
  • Effective communication skills
