Job Description

The HR Team is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join their team in Chantilly, VA. As a key member of the property management team, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the physical grounds, performing repairs and capital improvements, and providing excellent customer service to tenants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, correspondence, and memos, and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from tenants and to effectively present information back to tenants, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Have a firm understanding of processes and procedures and how errors in judgment may cause impact to co-workers, tenants, or the buildings.
  • Perform assigned repairs, emergency, and preventative maintenance.
  • Review assigned work orders and estimate time and materials to complete repair.
  • Oversee work performed by outside contractors.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls after hours.
  • Complete property inspections.
  • Perform light carpentry, furniture assembly, and locksmith tasks as needed.
  • Monitor operations, adjust, and maintain building systems, including heating and air conditioning equipment, hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, and filters.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of common areas (inside and outside), including custodial and janitorial work.
  • Respond to emergency calls after normal business hours as needed.
  • Report to a Maintenance Chief as well as a Property Manager.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience in the building maintenance industry.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, indoors, outdoors in all climates, and unclean environments with fumes, dust, and poor ventilation while adhering to company safety requirements and programs.
  • Have a basic understanding and knowledge of general maintenance, carpentry, painting, refurbishing, plumbing, electricity, and HVAC in both theory and practical application.
  • Must be available for after-hours calls.
  • Computer literate and ability to answer calls and emails via a smartphone device.
  • Ability to multi-task with a customer-focused and professional approach.
  • Must have proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
  • Positive attitude and ability to effectively listen to co-workers and respond to their requests.
  • High school graduate or G.E.D. required.
  • Indoor and outdoor work is normal. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Lifting, climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and carrying are common throughout the workday.
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance are required.
  • Available to work in and around Chantilly, VA.
  • Ability to obtain government security clearance (U.S. citizen with a clean record).
