Overview:

The Senior Transportation Analyst plays a crucial role in optimizing transportation processes and enhancing operational efficiency within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Gather, verify, and interpret data to develop and uphold key performance indicators essential for budgetary and operational commitments.
  2. Create comprehensive reports and presentation materials as requested by departmental leadership.
  3. Support the design and execution of cost-saving initiatives and process enhancement programs in collaboration with carriers, suppliers, and other transportation service providers.
  4. Engage with Finance, Carrier Management, IT, Freight Payment, and other departments involved in transportation functions to facilitate reporting and project execution.
  5. Proactively inform and advise on trends, shifts in the transportation sector, and other logistics factors that may influence product transportation.
  6. Oversee and enhance the freight claims process for the organization.
  7. Address issues related to claims, invoices, vendor recovery, and other factors affecting financial and operational outcomes.
  8. Exemplify and uphold Essendant's Core Values.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Exceptional ability to analyze, manipulate, and present data to aid in decision-making.
  • Strong project management capabilities and multitasking skills with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and communicate them to leadership clearly and concisely.
  • Capacity to work independently and assume leadership roles in team or cross-functional settings.
  • Ability to represent the department and communicate initiatives effectively to carriers, suppliers, and management stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of carrier rate structures, particularly with UPS and FedEx.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel and Access.
  • Experience in data mining and familiarity with SQL or Hyperion.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred, although degrees in other areas will be considered with relevant work experience.
  • Preferred certifications include CPSM, CTP, or Green Belt.
  • Experience with a Transportation Management System (TMS), particularly Manhattan, is advantageous.
  • Experience in managing third-party freight payment companies is preferred.
