Lab Technician 2

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab and Research Technician 2 to join our team at the University of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the lab's animal colony, assisting in animal experiments, maintaining lab equipment, and helping to train undergraduate students.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the lab's animal colony, including care and feeding, cage cleaning and sanitization, and observation during post-operative or treatment periods.
- Assist in animal experiments, including performing analyses, participating in research or clinical work involving treatment operations, and maintaining equipment and apparatuses.
- Coordinate and participate in routine technical duties, providing assistance to clinical and research staff in testing, determinations, and experiments.
- Evaluate research methods, procedures, and techniques, based on established objectives.
- Provide basic assistance to researchers in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data using specialized statistical computer software.
- May perform certain surgical procedures on small lab animals.
- Assist with training other staff members on procedures; may supervise students or volunteers.
- Assist Principal Investigators and senior staff in developing new strategies and techniques for experimentation.
- Associate's degree in a related science field.
- At least 2 years of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in a related science field may be considered in lieu of experience.
