Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team at Ogden City Corporation. As a GIS Specialist, you will be responsible for designing and developing applications relevant to the needs of the Engineering Division, conducting quality assurance procedures on data used in specific application programs, and monitoring information for accuracy and recommending changes for improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop applications relevant to the needs of the Engineering Division
  • Conduct quality assurance procedures on data used in specific application programs
  • Monitor information for accuracy and recommend changes for improvement
  • Utilize various software and hardware to develop systems to compile, maintain, retrieve, and analyze a variety of GIS coverage features and records
  • Automate mapping procedures and develop end-user interfaces
  • Extract data with SQL maps and create reports from extracted data
  • Assist in coordinating GIS functions with the Engineering Division
  • Work in conjunction with users to assure end product needs are met
  • Participate in user needs assessments
  • Attend training meetings
  • Utilize a variety of input devices to enter mapping and tabular information into a GIS
  • Utilize coordinate geometry and coordinate adjustment software to prepare coverage information
  • Interpret maps, plats, and survey records to create and develop new map layers
  • Respond to telephone, electronic, and in-person plan review and process inquiries
  • Explain city, state, and professional codes requirements, as well as City and departmental policies and procedures
  • Calculate applicable regulatory fees based on an established fee schedule
  • Route calls to appropriate staff, as necessary
  • Issue construction permits in compliance with city ordinances and state law
Requirements
  • Two years of work-related experience in computer operations in GIS, knowledge of the state plane coordinate system, CAD, ArcInfo, ArcView, and relational database systems
  • Or two years of education and/or experience in a GIS area or related field may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis
  • Demonstrated ability to operate programmable calculators, computers, workstations, digitizing tools, and plotters
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, other agencies, and the general public under a variety of circumstances
  • Must be well organized, meticulous, and able to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to process and handle records utilizing both manual and automated filing systems and translate data to GIS
