About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Technician II to join our Psychiatric Services Department at Halifax Health. As a key member of our team, you will provide direct patient care and observation for patients aged 16 and above, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide continuous patient care, direct observation, and interaction to promote safety and therapeutic treatment.
  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate milieu activities, such as community meetings, goal-setting, groups, and recreational activities.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and respond to their needs with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Recognize potential escalation of behavior and utilize effective de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Accurately report patient status, issues, and concerns to the RN and maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Exhibit organizational ability, sound judgment, and initiative in managing multiple responsibilities and tasks in stressful situations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • CNA and BLS certification required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or a related field preferred.
  • One year of experience working as a CNA/Paramedic/EMT preferred.
  • Some experience working with mental health clients preferred.
Working Conditions

This role requires daily contact with acutely ill patients, families, and significant others, as well as medical, nursing, rehabilitation, and other staff. You will also encounter and manage multiple priorities in stressful situations and conflict.
