Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in the laboratory team, responsible for the collection, processing, and testing of laboratory specimens under the direction of the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform waived laboratory tests and waived proficiency testing, correlation studies, or other waived testing according to established laboratory and Medical Office policies and procedures.
  • Utilize Quality Control procedures and take appropriate action for Out of Control results.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, perform safety checks, and preventive maintenance on instruments according to procedures and manufacturers' recommendations.
  • Collect laboratory specimens, perform venipuncture proficiently on all age groups, and deliver great customer service.
  • Process stats, coagulation, and other time-sensitive specimens immediately and follow through with add-on requests.
  • Assist with workload recording, record review, and storage, and inventory control.
Requirements
  • Minimum two (2) years of documented previous testing experience and MLA certification from ASCP or AMT.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certificate and Medical Lab Assistant Certification.
