Job Title: Bat Acoustic Survey Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Bat Acoustic Survey Technician to join our team at Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST). As a key member of our environmental consulting firm, you will be responsible for conducting acoustic surveys at proposed development projects in Virginia and West Virginia.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be able to travel to various locations, working independently and as part of a two-person crew, to conduct acoustic surveys using ultrasonic bat detectors. You will be responsible for deploying and maintaining equipment, collecting and organizing data, and ensuring the safety of yourself and others in the field.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct acoustic surveys using ultrasonic bat detectors and other field equipment
  • Deploy and maintain equipment, including GPS units, compasses, and cameras
  • Collect and organize data, including recording field observations and maintaining equipment logs
  • Ensure the safety of yourself and others in the field, adhering to WEST and client field safety requirements
  • Participate in WEST's health and safety calls and adhere to WEST's safety protocols
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an equivalent degree
  • Experience with acoustic detectors, GPS units, tablet data collection, compasses, and other field equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and coordination skills
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle safely
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and DMV records check
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Field experience related to acoustic surveys
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and policies
Physical Requirements:

The successful candidate must be in good physical shape, able to hike to survey sites with up to 30 pounds of field equipment, and maintain focus while driving for several hours between sites. You must also be able to work in varying terrain and weather conditions.
