Compensation: $26.16/hr (non-benefited position with no hour guarantee)

Department: Sheriff's Office

Role Summary:

The On-Call Telecommunicator/Emergency Medical Dispatcher plays a crucial role in managing emergency and non-emergency calls. This position is responsible for:

  • Responding to 9-1-1 calls and providing essential assistance to callers.
  • Making critical decisions regarding the dispatch of fire, police, and EMS services.
  • Utilizing two-way radio communication to relay information to mobile units, adhering to FCC regulations.

Key Qualifications:

  1. Minimum age of 18 years.
  2. High school diploma or GED required.
  3. Ability to distinguish colors for CAD system operation.
  4. Completion and maintenance of Basic Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification within the first year of employment.
  5. LED certification is necessary.
  6. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  7. Experience with office equipment, including computers and radios.
  8. Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
  9. Capability to work independently.
  10. Ability to make sound decisions under varying stress levels.
  11. Skills in managing challenging situations and maintaining control.
  12. Multitasking abilities are essential.
  13. Knowledge of law enforcement radio operations.
  14. Understanding of FCC rules and regulations.
  15. Experience working with diverse communities.
  16. Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective relationships with colleagues and the public.
  17. Creative problem-solving abilities.
  18. Work is subject to continuous pressures requiring innovative thinking.
  19. Communication Training Officers (CTOs) will provide training to new dispatchers post Field Training Course completion.
