About the Position

This is an open continuous announcement for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Quality Assurance) position at Irwin Army Community Hospital (IACH) in Fort Riley, Kansas. Multiple vacancies exist and may be filled from this announcement at any of the locations listed.

The selected candidate will be responsible for structuring, directing, and managing the Department of Pathology PI program, which includes a large, high-complexity laboratory providing a full range of clinical and anatomic pathology services to IACH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the quality of laboratory services concerning adequacy of personnel, equipment, and working environment through on-site inspections and/or the review of reports.
  • Oversee an external proficiency testing (PT) quality management program.
  • Perform advanced/complex Quality Assurance duties in the analysis of new methods implementation.
  • Maintain quality assurance data, conduct trending analyses, identify critical episodes or events, and report such to the appropriate authority along with recommended actions.
  • Assess quality control program compliance with accreditation guidelines and good laboratory practices.
  • Develop laboratory performance improvement projects.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT), or other board or registry deemed comparable by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS).
