Job Overview

The Field Service Technician will be responsible for managing and maintaining customer relationships, providing exceptional customer service, and acquiring new business opportunities. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical duties, testing, and inspections as well as the ability to identify customer needs and resources.

Responsibilities
  • Visit customers regularly for sales and service calls, ensuring that customers in designated sales areas are visited with a view to selling them SMS products and services
  • Identify customer needs and resources
  • Assist and solve customer's problems / issues and liaison with SMS group divisions including plant personnel and management
  • Make presentations to customers for new company technology / equipment to ensure they are aware of the latest solutions available from SMS group
  • Responsible for initial customer contact, and receiving and expediting RFQ's for proposal
  • Customer follow up includes follow up of: quoting, order placement, job completion and delivery
  • Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed, in accordance with QA, and health/safety requirements
  • Disassemble, assemble and test equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and/or vendor facilities
  • Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
  • Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects
  • Provide any additional support where needed
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required
