Job Summary

The Heber City Mechanic is responsible for performing a variety of journey-level duties related to the mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, heavy trucks, police vehicles, light vehicles, and small engines. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing gas and/or diesel-powered vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnoses and repairs fuel, ignition, electrical, electronic, and cooling systems, including the replacement of parts such as carburetors and fuel pumps, starter motors, distributors, generators, voltage regulators, wiring, switches, batteries, and radiators, thermostats, water pumps, hydraulic systems, and brake systems.
  • Installs and tests electrical and advanced electronic systems in vehicles as necessary, modifying such systems as required.
  • Performs electrical, hydraulic, and other repairs in the field.
  • Performs preventive maintenance work on all types of Heber City equipment, including construction equipment, police cars, heavy trucks, street sweepers, automobiles, small engines, light trucks, and other equipment.
  • Operates equipment and drives City vehicles, trucks, and equipment as required.
  • Tests and/or regularly operates heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Actively observes safe work methods and utilizes safety equipment related to the work.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its internal customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Uses and performs minor maintenance on hand, power, and shop tools and test equipment related to the work.
  • Creates reports of work performed, completes forms, and maintains accurate maintenance records using an automated fleet information system.
  • Implements and maintains an automated fleet program.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as experience with heavy equipment and vehicle repair. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively with internal customers.
