The Community You Will Serve: AdventHealth Tampa

Your Role:

The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCN) acts as a consultant and provider for patients with intricate wound care requirements and ostomy management. This role is responsible for collaborating with the healthcare team to establish and communicate the anticipated care patterns for this patient demographic. The WOCN leads educational and research initiatives to enhance wound and ostomy care and improve patient outcomes through the application of evidence-based practices. Additionally, the WOCN serves as a resource, leader, and role model in wound and ostomy care, acting as a liaison with the community and other healthcare professionals.

The Registered Nurse delivers self-directed, effective nursing care to groups of patients and performs additional duties as assigned in accordance with nursing standards and regulations.

Value You Bring to the Team:

· The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse evaluates patient care needs related to wound ostomy continence, as evidenced by:

o Quarterly Pressure Ulcer Assessments

o Comprehensive evaluations of wound and ostomy patients

o Responding to requests from physicians and nursing staff for consultations on patients pre and post-ostomy, as well as those with skin breakdown, draining wounds, and urinary incontinence

· Conducting and documenting assessments and recommended interventions

· Assessing the educational needs of nursing staff and potential educational requirements across the organization through annual nursing education surveys and interactions with nurses

· Assisting staff in developing and maintaining competency in skin integrity management

· Formulating nursing diagnoses to address the needs of patients with wounds, ostomies, and incontinence.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

· Graduate from an accredited nursing program

· Minimum of one year of nursing practice experience

· At least one year of experience demonstrating leadership and teaching capabilities

Preferred Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related field

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

· Current Registered Nurse licensure in Florida or licensure from another state with verification of application and eligibility for Florida licensure by endorsement

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

· Board Certification in Wound, Ostomy Care (WOCN) or to be obtained within six months of hire
