Job Summary

AST SpaceMobile is seeking a highly skilled CNC Machinist II-III to join our team in the production of cutting-edge space-based cellular broadband network equipment. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for executing and supporting all machining activities related to the production of high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities
  • CNC Programming: Create and develop CNC programs for new development projects, working directly from part drawings and ensuring optimal quality and minimal production time.
  • Machining Operations: Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including HAAS Lathe and 3, 4, and 5-axis milling machining centers, to produce metallic and composite parts with exacting tolerances and dimensions.
  • Machine Setup and Maintenance: Conduct machine set-ups, installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers, and indicating vices.
  • Quality Control: Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample work pieces, adhering to international standards and ensuring compliance with Engineering Drawings and CAD models.
  • Material Management: Determine material, parts, and equipment required for production.
  • Problem-Solving: Solve problems related to work-holding arrangements, unusual materials, machine settings, and tools.
  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations, and maintain continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of machine shop experience with conventional and CNC, including 5 years of experience creating CNC programs for 3, 4, and 5-axis machines, and 5 years of experience supporting production of high-volume parts.
  • Skills: Knowledge of various precision CNC machinery and principles, fabrication and machining practices, ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints, and proficiency with PME accurately (height gages, micrometers, calipers, etc.).
  • Language: Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Associates Degree in a mechanical or machining related curriculum.
  • Experience: 4 years' additional education and CNC machine experience.
  • Skills: Ability to lay out own work, familiarity with ASME Y, Dimensioning and Tolerancing specification, proficiency with MasterCAM, CNC software, and AutoDesk Inventor experience.
