Shifts Offered:

Full-Time (36 hours/week) with options for Days (7a-7p) or Nights (7p-7a). The Adult Surgical Transplant Unit is a 32-bed facility.

Our team cares for a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels, encompassing both medical/surgical and step-down care. We specialize in comprehensive pre- and post-operative management for transplant patients, particularly those undergoing liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants.

The Surgical Transplant Unit provides an opportunity to engage in complex patient care, allowing caregivers to witness the full organ transplant journey.

Less than one (1) year of experience is preferred for this role. If you possess more than one (1) year of RN experience, please explore positions labeled as "Experienced RN" to initiate the application process.

The OU Health Nurse Residency Program equips new graduate nurses with essential resources and experiences that form a robust foundation for a thriving nursing career.

Participants in the OU Health Nurse Residency receive mentorship and support from a dedicated preceptor and clinical education specialist, facilitating a smooth transition from student to professional practice.

This program includes structured learning opportunities, a supportive social network, mentorship, and preparation for national certification in the chosen specialty area.

Applicants must hold a current RN license or compact RN license valid in Oklahoma before commencing the program and should have less than one year of clinical RN experience to qualify for enrollment in our Nurse Residency Program.


General Overview:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital setting to a diverse patient population with health issues ranging from simple to complex.

Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities outlined in this section are fundamental to the position. Inability to fulfill these responsibilities, with or without accommodation, may lead to disqualification from the role. Takes responsibility for an assigned group of patients, monitoring their responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments; records all changes in physician orders for assigned patients. Assists physicians during patient examinations and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments. Collects and monitors physiological data of patients, observes their physiological manifestations, and intervenes as necessary. Administers medications as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently. Engages with patients and their families in discussing care plans during hospitalization and at discharge.
Informs patients and families about hospital procedures. Refers patient care needs to appropriate personnel. Delegates tasks to support staff.

General Duties:
Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing school is required. A Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing from a Board Approved Program is preferred.

Licensure:

Must possess a valid temporary or permanent license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education as a Registered Nurse prior to starting the role. A permanent license must be obtained within three months of appointment.


Physical Requirements (with or without accommodations):
Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, and lifting of patients, along with sufficient manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment. Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods. May be required to perform repetitive tasks and motions. Requires adequate visual acuity to read charts and equipment displays. Must be able to hear alarms, telephones, and normal speaking voices. Good mental and physical health to work for extended periods in a high-stress environment is essential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of patients and visitors. Basic computer skills are required.
