Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist - Pulmonary Function Specialist is responsible for planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy to restore pulmonary function, alleviate pain, and support life. This role involves conducting evaluations, developing treatment plans, and ensuring quality patient care in collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct pulmonary function tests and assess, interpret evaluations and test results to determine appropriate respiratory therapy treatment plans.
  • Administer inhalants, operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators to support patient care.
  • Perform bronchopulmonary drainage, assist with breathing exercises, and monitor physiological responses to therapy (e.g., vital signs, arterial blood gases).
  • Direct treatments provided by aides, technicians, and assistants, ensuring adherence to prescribed protocols.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans by observing patient progress and making necessary adjustments.
  • Participate in discharge planning by collaborating with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop home exercise programs and instruct patients, families, and caregivers to ensure continuity of care post-discharge.
  • Recommend and provide assistive equipment and facilitate outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
  • Document all patient care services accurately in patient and department records to maintain compliance and continuity of care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and uphold hospital operations by adhering to confidentiality protocols.
  • Ensure a safe and clean working environment by following established procedures, rules, and protocols to protect patients and staff.
  • Provide in-service training programs for respiratory therapy staff to promote ongoing education and development.
  • Stay updated on federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements, ensuring compliance and advising management on necessary actions.
Position Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Current GA state license required.
  • Must be willing to float, work every other weekend, and cover 2 out of 3 major holidays as needed.
  • Registered Cardiac Perfusionist (RCP) certification required.
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • COVID-19 vaccinations and adherence to other health protocols as mandated.
