What Drives You

The role of Performance Engineer is esteemed as one of the premier technical positions within the organization. This role will concentrate on the performance of machines within the Hydraulic Mining Shovels product category. The machine platforms will encompass both diesel and AC-powered shovels across legacy, current, and upcoming products. You will act as a consultant and technical authority on projects that significantly impact Caterpillar's core technologies. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, facilitating discussions ranging from operational and technical matters to presentations for dealers and executives. Your influence will extend to machine concepts and product line strategies, playing a vital role in enhancing how the HMS product line delivers value through performance and efficiency improvements in primary loading tools in mining operations. In addition to showcasing a thorough understanding of engineering principles, you will be expected to lead projects and initiatives to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Collaborate with Virtual Product Development (VPD) engineers to create and implement processes, tools, and technologies for performance simulations and analyses.

+ Define technical and performance specifications for new products through VPD simulations and analyses. Engage with both internal and external stakeholders to secure agreement on critical requirements and specifications, cascading these to system teams.

+ Develop comprehensive performance acceptance criteria for products; work closely with hydraulic system, powertrain, engine, and undercarriage engineers to utilize VPD tools for feasibility analyses on key components, subsystems, systems, and control technologies, recommending optimal paths forward.

+ Assist machine technical leads with VPD results to support decision-making; enhance current product quality through data and comparative analysis results.

+ Support sales and service teams; ensure data integrity in the Value Simulation Tool (VST) and other sales and marketing resources; guarantee that on-site productivity studies yield technical and commercial benefits; collect and analyze competitive machine data to maintain Caterpillar HMS's performance and productivity advantages.

+ Manage the HMS Application Profile and Composite Workcycle; leverage telematics data to continuously refine and inform duty cycle information as part of the design process.

+ Oversee machine responses to events and diagnostics.

Required Skills:

Technical Expertise: Strong leadership capabilities with extensive experience in the performance and application of mining shovels or excavators. Deep understanding of complex engineering concepts, electro-hydraulic system design, and control theory.

Analytical Skills: Proficient in techniques and tools that facilitate effective analysis; adept at identifying root causes of performance issues and developing alternative solutions.

Problem-Solving Abilities: Knowledgeable in approaches and tools for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving operational or process challenges; capable of applying problem-solving knowledge to various situations.

Communication Skills: Strong communication, leadership, project management, and business management abilities. Direct interaction with internal partners, suppliers, customers, and dealers necessitates negotiation skills, consensus-building, and compromise.

Attention to Detail: Recognizes the importance of accuracy; capable of completing tasks with a high degree of precision.

Preferred Qualifications:

Project Management: Familiarity with effective project management strategies; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects to ensure optimal use of technical and administrative resources.

Engineering Tools: Knowledge of specialized engineering programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate, and test design concepts using tools such as DYNASTY and C-Link.

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science program.
