About the Role
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Sheriff's Detention Deputy Trainees. As a Trainee Detention Deputy, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our pretrial detention facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise detainees and maintain a secure environment within the facility.
- Conduct searches and inventory property, ensuring the integrity of the facility.
- Participate in roll call and complete mandatory health and welfare checks on inmates.
- Respond to emergency situations, utilizing physical force and providing basic emergency medical care when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records on inmates and prepare incident reports.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the safety and security of the facility.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- No felony convictions.
- Able and willing to work with inmates who may be hostile or difficult.
- Successfully complete the six-week classroom and six-week on-the-job training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Sensitivity to issues involving race and ethnic diversity, with experience communicating with individuals of limited English skills.
- An interest in a career in adult detention, corrections, or public safety.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week with the possibility of paid overtime in the Adult Detention division.
