We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for operating nuclear medicine equipment, administering radiopharmaceuticals, and providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities- Operate nuclear medicine equipment, including cameras and scanners, to produce high-quality images for diagnosis.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals and procedural adjunctive medication according to clinician prescriptions and approved exam parameters.
- Perform venipuncture and placement of peripheral IV catheters for medication administration.
- Access other vascular access devices, as determined by department training and need.
- Follow correct procedures for handling radioactive materials and implement ALARA measures.
- Maintain accurate records of pharmaceutical doses and comply with State and Accrediting Organization requirements for radiation safety and protection.
- Perform quality assurance of equipment to ensure safe and accurate performance, as required by the NRC, IDNS, and Accrediting Organization regulations.
- Observe radiation safety precautions and maintain necessary documentation of the acquisition and disposition of isotopes and radioactive material.
- Order daily supplies of radioisotopes needed to perform scheduled exams.
- Inject patients with the correct and accurate dosage of radioisotopes.
- Maintain hospital and department fire safety, disaster policy, and standard precautions and safety standards.
- Promote patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating in safety initiatives.
- Adhere to department standards of image quality and safety practices.
- Label all images appropriately, check image quality prior to patient dismissal, and document pertinent information on performance improvement logs and data sheets.
- Provide a safe work environment for self and others and promote patient safety by reporting issues through established channels.
- Deliver a Service First Approach to patients and all customers within the job scope, treating all patients and customers with respect and compassion, utilizing appropriate phone etiquette, and maintaining patient confidentiality according to hospital policies.
- Develop leadership skills and professionalism through participation in department and/or hospital-based committees and continuing education programs.
- Attend to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner, keeping current Nuclear Medicine skills and new developments in the field, and demonstrating self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities.
- Graduate of an approved program of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- 1 year experience preferred but not essential.
- Certification with ARRT or CNMT.
- Licensed by IEMA and Registry eligible.
- CPR Certification.
This position requires exposure to radiation, long hours, and on-call requirements. The incumbent must be able to work under minimal supervision, make independent professional decisions, and adjust to flexible work hours. The ability to communicate with patients, deal with extremely ill patients, and participate in on-call programs is also required.
The incumbent must be able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and use patient handling equipment when necessary. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
