Engineering Internship: Transit Communication Systems

Role Summary
This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage in the daily operations and engineering aspects of communication systems projects. Interns will collaborate closely with Communication System Engineers and contribute to an integrated team focused on various engineering tasks. The primary focus will be on systems and network design, along with elements of network architecture, fiber backbone design, and the development of systems such as CCTV, Emergency and VOIP telephones, Access Control, and SCADA systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing Communication System Engineering solutions
- Creating and managing Bill of Materials
- Developing Requests for Information (RFI)
- Selecting appropriate products
- Drafting Operations & Maintenance manuals
- Producing training documentation
- Participating in customer and internal meetings
- Completing other design-related tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Skills & Competencies:
- Genuine interest in Transit and/or Rail Construction Projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Effective time management abilities
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse range of individuals and organizations, including public agencies, private utilities, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Internship Benefits
- Paid internship with potential raises for returning interns.
- Reimbursement for roundtrip airfare or mileage to/from the internship location.
- Monthly living stipends available for qualifying students.
- Flexible internship start and end dates (minimum of 2 months required for summer internships).
