Center for Workforce Inclusion - Insect Ecology Support Specialist

The Center for Workforce Inclusion is seeking an Insect Ecology Support Specialist to assist in the Southwest Region 3 Forest Service program. This role is part of the NFS Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) initiative, which aims to provide essential support to the U.S. Forest Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field installations of specialized insect traps and lures aimed at the collection and accurate identification of bark beetles and related insect species in the Southwestern Region. This position requires a strong outdoor orientation and the ability to navigate remote and rugged areas.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs of weekly data collections, field observations, and notes. Ensure timely reporting of collected data to the Entomologist.
  • Perform post-processing tasks on insects collected from various trap types at field sites, including identification, sorting, and counting of bark beetles and associated insects.

Qualifications and Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree is required, along with a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in a related field. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, is necessary. Candidates must be physically capable of hiking over challenging terrain while carrying field equipment. A valid driver's license is also required.

Work Schedule and Compensation: This is a part-time position, requiring approximately 5 hours of work per week.

This role is part of the Older Americans Act of 1965 / Title V COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT initiative, which creates part-time public service and private sector job opportunities for unemployed, experienced, and/or low-income individuals aged 55 and older.
