Job Description:

As a Clinical Nurse Supervisor, you will report directly to the Warden/Facility Administrator or Health Service Administrator for daily clinical operations within the medical department. You will manage and supervise daily nursing and clinical activities, including supervising nursing and non-licensed healthcare providers, evaluating performance, and handling corrective or disciplinary actions.

You will provide direct patient care within the scope of licensure, applying appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates/residents. You will ensure adequate staffing at the facility, perform nursing duties during staffing shortages, and perform triage, physical assessments, and emergency care procedures as needed.

You will monitor inpatient hospitalizations of inmates/residents for potential early releases, guide, supervise, and monitor nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff, and maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies.

You will ensure compliance with established corporate, facility, and correctional policies while using independent judgment for duties, evaluate the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication, and maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.

You will assist the Health Service Administrator in reviewing medical files to ensure all provided services are documented, monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely, and audit pharmacy use for adherence to the formulary.

You will comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those concerning controlled substances, observe and record inmate/resident behavior, and inspect the medical unit for contraband.

You will provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as required, assist the Health Service Administrator in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs, and evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.

You will prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures, escort or coordinate the movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment, perform searches of people and objects capable of concealing contraband, and take action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.

This role requires one year of professional nursing experience, and a graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing preferred.
